Brandon Morse

September 10-27th, 2018

The pieces on exhibition are a selection of works from the past decade by new-media artist Brandon Morse.  These works all draw from the exploration of system as metaphor. Created almost entirely through computer programming, these works aim to examine how the creation  of rule-based systems and computer simulation can be used as poetic, narrative, or metaphoric vehicles.

The works on display play off the concepts of Emergence and Entropy - in some cases the works display systems which exhibit tendencies towards self-organization wherein complex patterns and movements arise from an adherence to a simple rule set, and in other cases it is exactly the opposite which occurs: organized and clear structures give way to chaos and collapse.

These works are presented in anticipation of an exhibition of entirely new work entitled “Equator” taking place in November, 2018 at Dupont Underground
